Nothing has worked so far but I have a thought. Whatever's wrong is wrong on every page. So it can't be a plug-in or block that's only used periodically. It has to be everywhere.

I posted a problem a while back that you helped me fix but maybe it's not as fixed as we thought. As you may recall, I noticed that as my site grew I was having problems with the navigation: http://c5mix.com/support/forums/slate-theme/more-dropdown-control/. I followed your instructions and it seemed to help. However, I'm now up to 800+ pages and I think it's the result of the large numbers.

What I'm wondering is whether there's something wrong with autonav and the system is reading all the pages regardless of what's displayed. I went in and turned on Exclude from Nav on almost all of my main menus and it still ran slow. So perhaps this is what's happening. I've also read others having similar problems with autonav.

Any suggestions for how to bypass/change this behavior?

Can you tell me where the fancybox css is?

The only reason why I thought it might be the theme is because when I switch to a different theme, it runs really fast. Slate didn't used to be slow but as we added more stuff it slowed down.

Thanks for helping out.

1. I've looked at that 5 easy ways page a bunch of times and I haven't built anything so I don't understand how other than the opcode cache there's anything I can do about it. Aren't those things built into your theme?

2. The fancybox thing seems to be IE related. I don't use IE and the performance is bad. I'm willing to try it but can you tell me which CSS it's in?

3. Finally, I'm using Hostmonster to host my site. Do hosting companies provide a way to install APC? I'll look into it.

I did. It doesn't work. It's not listed on my concrete5 project page either. It even doesn't show up under my Purchases on the c5mix page. But I did buy it. Order #5506 on 12/28/11.

Weird!

Update: I deleted my project and re-connected the site to the Community and there was still no Slate license to assign.

Yes, I've looked at those tips but they all involve programming changes that I don't make. I'm just using the template as is. I'm not doing jQuery or editable themes or calling APIs or whatever.

Again, if I change the template to the default the site runs fast so why would caching make that big a difference with one template and not required for another?

Slow Performance

I'm finding my web site is going incredibly slow. I've done all the concrete5 performance tips and tricks and I've removed menu dropdowns. I wasn't sure what else might be wrong so I switched to the Plain Yogurt default theme and the site clips along nicely. So I assume then that Slate must be slowing me down. I have over 800 pages in the site so that may be something that Slate struggles with that Plain Yogurt doesn't. Don't know.

Breadcrumbs missing " > " delineator

I guess the subject says it all. Here's a picture showing the page hierarchy of Home > Audio/Visual > Photos > By Month except only the first delineator is shown.

More Dropdown Control

Currently the menu dropdowns go all the way to the bottom page level. I've got a fairly large site with 100's of pages and many menus drop out of site and require scrolling. Is there a way to pull those up or turn off dropdown altogether?

Drop-down menu showing subpages of excluded pages

I installed the eCommerce add-on and even though the Checkout page is excluded from nav, its subpages (Discount, Billing, etc.) show up under the first non-excluded page it finds.

According to someone on this thread (http://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/ecommerce/support/site-menu-messed-up-after-installation/):

"The auto nav doesn't check to see if a page's parent page has an "exclude from nav" attribute set before including the child page in the collection of pages to display."

Can you tell me how to fix this?

Different Auto-Nav formats

The auto-nav block looks very different when used in a sidebar vs. the main or column areas. The latter is a simple bulleted list of links, which is exactly what I'd like to use in a sidebar instead of the larger grey boxes.

Can I do that?

I got a fix from a reply on another forum.

Apparently the Slate theme already includes the fancybox lightbox in its code, so any other add-on that I try that has the fancybox will fail because the theme and the add-on's copy of fancybox will conflict with each other.

The solution for Sortable Fancybox Gallery was to modify the following file on my server:

Photo gallery problems

I'm obviously not understanding some basics here so any help would be appreciated. I've installed at least 3 different gallery plug-ins and they all have the same behavior. Clicking on the thumbnail doesn't do anything. I can right-click and open the full size image in another tab/window but the link doesn't work.

I can't tell if this is a general Concrete5 problem or a Slate theme problem or a my computer problem... thanks!

Changing font sizes

I'm a C5 newbie of about 2 days so please bear with me.

I've got lots of menu items and I want them to fit on one line. I added a custom CSS entry to reduce the size - "nav ul li a {font-size:1.05em;)" - which works fine except now there's some space between the menu and the submenu items. How do I push that flush?

Also, the h1 font is a little larger than I'd like but the CSS is in typography.css. Is there a way to change that without editing the file?
